Cinephile Paradiso returns this April presenting Peter Bogdanovich’s 1973 heartwarming comedy-drama Paper Moon.
Starring the dynamic father-daughter duo, Ryan and Tatum O’Neal, Paper Moon is set against the backdrop of the Great Depression and follows Moses Pray (Ryan O’Neal), a smooth-talking con artist, who reluctantly takes on the responsibility of escorting Addie Loggins (Tatum O’Neal), a wise beyond her years, orphaned girl, to her relatives. As Moses and Addie embark on a cross-country journey filled with scams and unexpected bonding, the duo develops an unconventional yet heartwarming father-daughter relationship.
Set in the dusty landscapes of the Midwest, the film captures the essence of a bygone era, blending humour and poignancy. The film reminds us that even in the toughest times, genuine connections and love can blossom. Tatum O’Neal’s breakout performance earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the youngest winner in Oscar history.
